Dreaming of... Perfect Powder Rooms

There's something very intriguing about powder rooms that I just can't put my finger on. I think I like the idea of having a little jewel box in a home where you can experiment with (and indulge in) bold colors, textures, and fixtures that you might otherwise be hesitant to use in a larger room. Because the surface area is minimal, you can splurge on decadent wallpaper, or try out an intricate painting technique or pattern. I also LOVE the impact a small chandelier makes in a powder room- what a pleasant surprise for guests to walk into! Decorating the powder room is a quick and affordable way to add some personality and design to your home and explore your own creativity and aesthetic.

Dilemma

For over a year I have been infatuated with how sophisticated and glamorous a zebra print cowhide rug can make a room look (like this one from Modani). I've looked into purchasing one for myself, but I can never seem to bring myself to make the investment. Perhaps it's because I'm boarder-line vegetarian, or maybe because I have a soft spot for animals, but the thought of having the entire HIDE of a COW on my floor makes my stomach churn (although I'm not opposed to a leather couch... go figure). I've looked high and low for a good synthetic alternative, but every one I've found looks, well... fake (and cheap!). Am I overreacting? Do I tell my conscious to take a chill pill for the sake of a potentially fabulous looking room?

2011: The Year of Honeysuckle

Each year, Pantone, the world's authority in color, announces their pick for the Color of the Year. The choice impacts all aesthetic industries from fashion, to beauty, to home decor. While I'm not usually the biggest fan of any shade of pink, the honeysuckle hue has got me second guessing myself. It brings to mind the warmth and splendor of a tropical vacation- which I wouldn't mind being reminded of year round! I'm especially daydreaming of a slick honeysuckle manicure (I'll try Essie's Wife Goes On), and even some honeysuckle accents in the home can look more rich than overly girly!
